Highlanders Cup, Warriors Champion Cup flagged off

The Highlanders Cup tourney and Warriors Champion Cup hockey tournament held between the Kodava families from the villages affected by the natural calamity kickstarted at General K S Thimayya stadium in Napoklu on Tuesday.

As many as 14 families affected by the calamity took part in the tournament.

The Highlanders Family Club President Apparanda Sagar presided over the programme.

Inaugurating the Highlanders Cup hockey tourney and Warriors Champion Cup hockey tourney, Kodava Hockey Academy Vice President Kaliyanda C Nanaiah said that the tournament has been organised to aid the victims of natural calamity.

Talacauvery-Bhagamandala Temple Managing Committee Chairman Biddatanda S Thammaiah, Nadikeriyanda Tej Poovaiah, coffee growers Kulletira Shambhu and Apparanda Appaiah, Karnataka Raita Sangha Kodagu District President Kadyamada Manu Somaiah and Kodagu DCC Bank Vice President Ketolira Harish Poovaiah were present among others.

The first match of The Highlanders Cup tournament was held between Pasoora and Muddanda teams. Pasoora beat Muddanda by 3-0. Pasoora Muttamma and Madhu secured the goals for Pasoora team.

The match between Cheppudira and Anjaparavanda teams for the Warriors’ Champion Cup was a draw, with both the teams securing one goal each.
