Houses gutted in blaze

Nearly seven among nine houses in Dhoomappa compound in Pandeshwar were gutted in a massive blaze on Saturday night.

However, a major disaster was averted as fire personnel rushed to the spot and succeeded in containing the blaze quickly. The blaze would have spread to other houses in the densely populated area if the gas cylinders were not shifted to a safe location.

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath who rushed to the spot told DH that temporary arrangements have been made for seven families who lost their homes in the blaze.
