Condemning the failure of concerned authorities to complete the road work, the residents Kunjila will stage a protest by blocking the road on February 8.

The foundation for the road was laid 20 months ago. However, the contractor has failed to complete the work, alleged villagers.

Kakkabbe Gram Panchayat former president Y K Hamsa said that the Kunjila-Parambubane-Kakkabbe Main Road, covering a distance of 2.5 km, had not seen any development for the last 20 years.

The road was in poor condition. Having realised it, MLA K G Bopaiah had impressed upon the government to sanction Rs 2 crore for the development of the road. In spite of sanctioning of the fund, the contractor has failed to complete the work, alleged Hamsa.

There are 50 to 60 houses, coffee estates and paddy fields in the village. The residents had parted their land for the widening of the road. Kunjila Paisari Muslim Jamaat had paid Rs 60,000 to shift an electricity pole from the road. The contractor had dug the road and completed concreting work on a stretch of 800-metres. The remaining stretch of the road has been left as it is, alleged the GP former president.

A memorandum was submitted to the deputy commissioner and other officers on the condition of the road. The road work should be taken up before February 7. If this fails to happen, a protest will be staged from 10 am to 4 pm on February 8.

Gram Panchayat former member M A Nasar said that owing to the negligence of the contractor, we villagers are facing inconvenience.
