Malpe beach: About 50 kg plastic waste collected

Members of Swacch Bharath Friends organised ‘Beat the Plastic Pollution,’ a beach cleanliness drive, at Malpe beach on Saturday evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Leaseholder for developing Malpe beach Sudesh Shetty called upon the tourists to reduce the use of plastic. “Increase in plastic pollution will affect the pristine beach environment and also the marine life. The tourists play a pivotal role in keeping the beach clean.”

On seeing the volunteers cleaning the beach, renowned Spine Surgeon from Bengaluru Dr Yogesh Pitwa and Ayurveda practitioner from Bengaluru Dr Deepa Pitwa too joined the team in the cleanliness drive.

Swachh Bharath Friends Founder Ganesh Prasad G Nayak said that about 50 kg of plastic waste was collected during the drive. “We will also join school and college students to continue the drive in the future,’ he said.

Apart from the members of Swacch Bharath Friends, Bharath Scouts and Guides Udupi district convener Nithin Amin, Vaikunta Baliga College of Law students Harish Naik and Sandeep S, MIT students Pratheek Nikam, Abhay Kumar, Adithya Sharma, Manas Singh, Abhishek Kalluri, Pranjal and Sudarshan Sharma and others participated in the cleanliness drive.

The cleanliness drive is organised on every Saturday evening in Malpe beach.
