MLA K G Bopaiah identified the land in Ambatti for rehabilitating the families living at Ayyappa Betta and Nehru Nagara.

The hillocks in Ayyappa Betta and Nehru Nagara had developed cracks following the heavy rainfall last year. The government has decided to rehabilitate the residents.

Speaking to reporters, MLA Bopaiah said that the district is ravaged by natural calamities for the last few years. As many as 365 families living in the affected areas are in distress.

No paisari land is available within a 4-km radius of Virajpet town. When the government decided to purchase land from private individuals, four persons showed interest in selling their land. As three proposed sites were farmland, it was rejected, he said.

The district-level committee led by the deputy commissioner has already inspected 7.80 acres of private land on survey numbers 33, in Ambatti. In the first phase, houses will be constructed for 66 families, by Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation. In the second phase, the remaining beneficiaries will be shifted, he added.

The MLA directed the Town Panchayat engineer to issue NOC for those who wish to construct a new house after demolishing old houses in the Town Panchayat jurisdiction.
