Candidates, leaders and party workers of Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency are carrying out discussions and calculations on the results of Lok Sabha election which was held on Thursday.

The constituency has registered a voter turnout of 75.89%.

The polling percentage was 74.56 during the previous Parliamentary elections held in 2014. The voting has increased only by 1.33%.

In Karkala Assembly constituency, the voting percentage has decreased by 0.63% while in the rest of the seven Assembly constituencies, there is an increase between 1% and 2.5%.

The workers and leaders of various political parties have been estimating the number of votes they are set to garner based on the number of votes cast in their respective booths. The image of the candidates, political wave and caste factors too are taken into consideration in the calculation.

A farmer leader said that there was a direct fight between the coalition candidate and BJP candidate. There was no candidate from Congress party. “The competition was tough and it is not easy to predict the result,” he said.

People from various walks of life have been speaking about the probable results. However, the results will be known on May 23.

The fate of the candidates is sealed in electronic voting machines which along with control units and VVPAT machines have been shifted to strongroom at the district administration complex in Udupi.
