Last Updated 15 July 2018, 17:52 IST

Sea erosion has intensified in Kaipunjal and Ermalubada in the Kaup taluk.

A private lodge in the proximity of Jwali beach, Kaup, has been partially damaged. Houses and coconut trees in the vicinity face the threat of being washed away by the waves.

Though the permanent protective wall is in a good condition, the boulders laid on the sand several years ago are being washed away, the local people said.

Town Municipal Corporation member Kiran Alva has urged to provide a permanent facility for the sea erosion.

Udupi district additional deputy commissioner Anuradha G, Kaup tahsildar Gurusiddappa visited the spot. Speaking on the occasion, the ADC said that complaints have been received regarding the sea erosion at Kaipunjalu and the situation has been observed.

A report will be submitted to the DC in this regard. More boulders would be laid to prevent further erosion of the sea.
