Segregate waste at source: C'magaluru CMC Commissioner

The initiative to collect dry waste was flagged off at Madhuvana Layout in Chikkamagaluru on Wednesday.

CMC Commissioner K Marameshi has appealed to the citizens to segregate waste at the source before handing over the garbage to the garbage collection vehicles.

Speaking after flagging off the dry waste collection from households at Maduvana Layout in CMC limits on Wednesday, he said plastic bags have been distributed to households in the CMC jurisdiction for segregating the waste at the source. The bag distribution has already been completed in 21 wards.

The dry waste will be collected from households on every Wednesday. The wet waste will be collected from households daily, he said and urged the people to cooperate with the CMC in maintaining cleanliness in the city.

The CMC will impose fines on those who fail to hand over segregated waste to the CMC, he added.
