Varsity extends support to flood-hit students

Mangalore University has decided to respond to the woes of the students affected by landslides and the flood in Kodagu district.

A press release from Mangalore University In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof Kishore Kumar C K said several college students have lost their houses, study materials and documents. The university is in constant touch with the college principals in Kodagu district and is collecting information on the affected students.

He said, “Already free hostel facilities have been arranged for the students who have lost their houses. The university will hold a meeting with the college principals to discuss the modalities for helping the affected students. Efforts are being made by the students to raise funds from different colleges coming under Mangalore University jurisdiction. Attendance will be provided to those students who failed to attend classes following the floods. All those students who have lost documents related to their studies in Mangalore University jurisdiction will be provided them back by Mangalore University free of cost.”

Further, he said that special exams will be conducted for the students in case the syllabus could not be completed within the time frame following rain and flood in Kodagu district. The affected students will be exempted from exam and other fee from the university.

The NSS camp will also be conducted in Kodagu district to take up relief works. In case an affected student wishes to continue their studies in any of the Mangalore University affiliated colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, then arrangement will be made for their admission along with boarding facilities, he added.

The VC said that the MSW students of the university will conduct a field visit to Kodagu and will submit a report on improving the lives of the affected families in Kodagu district. The report will be submitted to the state government for the future course of action.
