A policeman, who was deputed as a gunman for a political leader, has been suspended in Mangaluru for posing for a selfie and remaining absent without availing of leave.

He was the gunman for BJP leader Rahim Ucchil. Ucchil left for Dubai on June 23. Before leaving, he clicked a selfie with the gunman and posted it on social media. After Rahim left for Dubai, gunman Mallikarjuna did not hand over the gun to the office and left for his native without seeking leave.

According to the norms, bodyguards are not supposed to pose for photos with VIPs where they provide security.

As soon as the incident of the photo came to the notice of the authorities, senior police officers conducted an inquiry. During the inquiry, they realised that Mallikarjuna left for his native without seeking leave. When questioned, he reportedly told the officer that he was in Udupi with Rahim Ucchil.

CAR ACP conducted an inquiry and submitted a report to the city police commissioner T R Suresh. Based on the report, Mallikarjuna has been placed under suspension.
