This is the brief introduction of Congress candidate for Zilla Panchayat elections from Dharmapura constituency (reserved for women) in Mysore district.

Unlike others, she has another qualification/advantage, that obviously gives her an edge over her rivals - she is the sister-in-law of Hunsur Congress legislator H P Manjunath. Her husband, H P Amarnath is the brother of the MLA. Amarnath is into family business. Moreover, she is the daughter-in-law of senior Congress leader H N Premkumar.

Best bet
Owing to the turn of events, especially pressure from the voters of the constituency who found her the best bet, she is seeking a future in politics. She is also the first woman
to jump into politics in the family.

“My brother-in-law was also not sure about my candidature which was decided at the last minute,” Pushpavathi who was busy campaigning in a village, told Deccan Herald.
“It doesn’t mean that I had aversion to khadi, but hadn’t thought that it would come so early,” said Pushpavathi.

Does she have any hopes of winning? Quick comes the answer: “Polls cannot be fought on hopes, I am in the fray like any other contestant.”  If elected, she promises ‘good governance sans corruption.’

Apart from going door-to-door, she has been seeking votes on the development work undertaken by her legislator brother-in-law.

“Apart from digging 24 borewells with government funding, he has sponsored 220 borewells spending from his pocket,” claims Pushpavathi.

Born at Bannur in Mysore district, Pushpavathi did her BSc in Bangalore and Master’s in Bangalore University. She has just three months left for her viva voce for PhD.
“Serving people is no joke,” says Pushpavathi before resuming her campaigning.
Pushpavathi’s rivals include Shashikala Basavalingaiah of the BJP and Bhagya Raju of the JD(S).
