JOIN USHeavy rain lashed several parts of the state for the second day on Friday.
Heavy rains accompanied with gusty winds and lightning battered Dharwad city and rural parts, bringing respite from extreme heat condition. The mercury had touched 38 degrees Celsius in the morning in Dharwad. However, overcast conditions prevailed by noon and it rained for than 30 minutes towards evening.
The PB Road was waterlogged at several places following the downpour and vehicles had to navigate on the flooded roads, leading to traffic jams. It rained for a short duration in Hubballi also.
A 14-year-old boy who was grazing his cattle was struck dead by lightning at Mugad village on outskirts of Dharwad. The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Navalgund.
Belagavi city and surrounding villages received light rain early in the morning. The rain brought relief from the sweltering heat as the temperature was hovering at 36 to 38 degrees Centigrade for over a fortnight.
Five acres of the banana plantation was destroyed due to heavy rain in Pennasamudra village of Channagiri taluk on Thursday night. Channagiri town received 3.90 mm of rain while it rained 36.40 mm in Ubrani.
Heavy rain, accompanied by high-intensity winds, thunder and lightning lashed Hassan, Mandya and Mysuru districts. Four persons, who took refuge under a tree during the heavy downpour, sustained injuries when a branch of a tree snapped and fell on them, at Hennur village, Arkalgud taluk. Roofs of a few houses were blown away. Electric poles and trees got uprooted at many villages. According to IMD, the region received 4.2 mm to 20.2 mm rainfall.
