Modi chastises Rahul, Cong for disrespecting Deve Gowda

Last Updated 21 September 2018, 11:47 IST

Terming Congress leaders arrogant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Congress leaders, especially AICC President Rahul Gandhi's disrespect towards former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, was unacceptable.

Addressing a mega rally at MGM grounds in Udupi, he said “Your (Congress leaders) lives has just begun. Deve Gowda is senior leader in the country. Do we need the Congress government, which disrespects such a senior leader?” he asked.

There might be political differences between parties, but one should maintain the decency in public life. “Whenever former PM Deve Gowda visits me in Delhi, I always welcome him with respect and give him time. I meet him at my door and go with him to his car. He (Deve Gowda) may speak against me in the Parliament. But one has to respect senior leaders,” he said.

Narendra Modi said he would return the love of the people of Udupi-- if BJP is voted to power--with development projects for the district.

Calling upon the people of Karnataka to reject the Congress and open BJP's account in South India, he said the Congress is an arrogant party which has failed utterly to bring the poor in the country into the economic mainstream of society. It was BJP government that introduced the poor to the banking system in the country.

He said as he too hails from the land of Lord Krishna (Gujarat), he shares a unique relationship with the temple town of Udupi.
