Former prime minister Manmohan Singh on Monday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the latter's style of campaigning and use of language for May 12 Assembly elections.

"No prime minister in the past has used election time to say things in the manner that Modi has tried. It is shocking to note that the prime minister has stooped so low during an election," Singh charged.

Results of Karnataka Assembly polls will have an impact on national politics. Due to developments and pro-public administration, Siddaramaiah government would retain power, he expressed confidence.

Singh criticised Modi over mismanagement of vision in terms of economic policies.

"Farmers are in distress, while youths are struggling to get employment opportunities. The country's economy is growing below its potential. All these crises would have been avoided," he said and added:" Steps like demonetisation and GST have dealt a blow to the rural economy."

Singh charged that the growth rate under NDA was lower than UPA despite favourable global conditions.
