All bigwigs make a beeline for state on the same day

India’s biggest political heavyweights, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi, descended upon Karnataka on Tuesday, taking campaigning to an unprecedented level ahead of the May 12 Assembly polls.

Both Modi and Sonia addressed massive rallies in the Vijayapura district. While Sonia headed back, Modi continued campaigning by addressing rallies at Koppal and then in Bengaluru. Modi’s campaign will continue Wednesday with rallies scheduled in Bangarpet in Kolar district, Chikkamagaluru, Belagavi and Bidar.

While Sonia was addressing her first rally in two years at Vijayapura, her son and Congress president Rahul Gandhi toured Tumakuru and Chikkaballapur districts on Tuesday.

While BJP president Amit Shah was busy seeking votes for his party in Dakshina Kannada district, another political bigwig, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanat, campaigned in Uttara Kannada and Udupi districtsUdupi,

All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi joined the poll battle on Tuesday by addressing rallies in Belagavi in support of the HD Deve Gowda-led JD(S).

Archrivals Congress and BJP have launched a campaign barrage, with both parties deploying their top national leaders to campaign in Karnataka. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, one of the BJP’s star campaigner, is scheduled to tour Hirekerur, Ranibennur, Vijayanagar, Anekal and Bytarayanapura assembly constituencies on Wednesday.

Shah, Rahul in Bengaluru

Shah, the saffron party’s chief strategist, is scheduled to hold rallies in Tumkur Rural, Kunigal, Shantinagar, Shivajinagar, Sarvagnanagar and Mahadevapura constituencies on Wednesday.

Rahul will be in Bengaluru at the same time. He will start his day with a visit to the Dodda Ganapathi temple in Basavanagudi, followed by a visit to a garment factory on Hosur main road, a corner meeting at Russell Market, a roadshow at Thippasandra Main road and a corner meeting at Hebbal.
