Monsoon gained momentum in Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada districts on Wednesday.

Talacauvery, Bhagamandala, Napoklu, Nelaji, Pulikotu, Kakkabbe, Ballamavati received heavy showers. As a result, the water level in River Cauvery has increased. The inflow of water to Harangi reservoir has risen to 1,824 cusecs.

In the last 24 hours (ending 8.30 am on Wednesday), the district received an average of 44.66 mm rainfall. Madikeri received 79.75 mm, Virajpet taluk 31.32 mm and Somwarpet taluk 22.9 mm rainfall. With intermittent rains continuing to lash Dakshina Kannada district, Chelyadka bridge on the Puttur-Panaje Road has been submerged.

As rainwater flows on the bridge, the movement of vehicles on the Kunjoorupanja-Ajjikallu-Chelyadka-Uppalige stretch was disrupted. The residents had to take a detour to reach their destinations. If the region continues to receive rains, it is feared that there may be a landslide on the Puttur bypass road.

Four inmates of a house had a miraculous escape after a hillock caved in on it at Mankude in Kolnadu. The walls of the house has developed cracks. Following a landslide, the footroad connecting Mankude-Kodange-Kulala has been damaged. Due to sub-standard stormwater drains, rainwater has inundated low-lying areas in BC Road. Water has entered a few houses and shops in Amtadi Gram Panchayat.

Two suffered injuries when lightning struck a school at Beeyapade in Sarapady. A landslide was reported from Loretto on the Bantwal-Moodbidri stretch. Showers were also reported from Maski town in Raichur district.
