My 80-year-old mom made to sit for 6 hours: DKS

Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday lamented that his 80-year-old mother Gowramma was made to sit for six hours by the I-T authorities to record her statement. The minister, however, said she was treated with respect and care.

“My mother wasn’t home on Thursday, and the authorities wanted to record her statement. They issued a notice to her for deposition. To respect the notice, I took her to the I-T office. I was allowed to assist her, although there’s no such provision,” Shivakumar told reporters. “It pains me that such a situation arose where my 80-year-old mother had to sit for six long hours.”

He refused to comment when asked if he believed the I-T notice was a politically-motivated move. “I have respect toward the system. My mother has given a statement, which I don't want to disclose. Authorities treated us with respect. I'm confident I will get justice because I've not done anything wrong,” he said.
