The State government has completed all formalities and the airport can be commissioned at any point of time.

Reddy, speaking to reporters in Bangalore on Monday, said all prominent aviation companies have shown interest to offer flight services to Mysore from important locations in the country.

The Mysore palace has been luring the highest number of tourists from across the globe after Madam Tussauds museum in London. The airport in Mysore would boost the tourism sector, he said.

Airstrips

The government will develop 11 air strips each at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The places identified for air strips are Davangere, Raichur, Chitradurga, Udupi, Kushalanagar (Kodagu), Gokarna (Karwar), Bagalkot, Haveri, Kollegal (Chamarajanagar), Gadag and Chikmagalur.

A total of 2,440 acres of land is required to develop these airstrips. The government has already released Rs 20 lakh each to all districts to acquire the required land.

However, acquisition will start only after Airport Authority of India clears the land for airstrips.
