Mysore BJP leaders to face music

Chairmen of boards and corporations fail to deliver goods
Last Updated 17 May 2009, 19:31 IST

According to sources, countdown has begun to show doors to the chiefs of various boards and corporations in both the districts. A majority among them including the special representative of the State in New Delhi, Dr Subhash Bharani, may lose their posting. The chairmen of boards and corporations who were put in charge of respective Assembly segments are set to lose their positions with the victory of Congress in both the constituencies.
A leader, who spoke on condition of  anonymity, told Deccan Herald that the appointments to boards and corporations were made to placate a few ‘wavering’ prominent leaders in the two districts. They were nominated, rather in haste, with the intention of appeasing them and the communities they belong to.

Litany of complaints

A top leader of the party has already complained against City unit head B P Manjunath, who is also the chairman of Karnataka Exhibition Authority for laxity in campaigning. He was assigned the responsibility of Narasimharaja Assembly segment.
The leader claimed that the party polled 29,791 votes in the segment owing to rioting at Kyatamaranahalli and not because of Manjunath. Voters of a particular community in Kyatamaranahalli had supported BJP.
Karnataka Housing Board chairman G T Devegowda has again failed to attract voters in large numbers in Hunsur Assembly constituency. BJP stood at third position securing 31,454 votes while JD(S) garnered the highest - 47,298 votes. The efforts of Central Welfare Committee chairman C N Manjegowda in ensuring 44,246 votes for BJP in Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency, however, could not suffice to trounce the Congress.
Pathetic is the case with Chamarajanagar LS constituency, where BJP couldn’t make it despite wooing leaders into its fold. BJP candidate A R Krishnamurthy lost the polls by a narrow margin of 4,002 votes against Congress contestant.
Govindarajanagar (Bangalore) MLA V Somanna of Congress, a prominent Veerashaiva leader, former minister D T Jayakumar and former MLA of Bannur (now merged with T Narsipur Assembly segment) Chikkamadanayaka, belonging to Nayaka community were taken into party fold at the eleventh hour. However, the strategy didn’t yield expected result.
The party polled 31,689 votes as against 38,114 votes in favour of Congress, in T Narsipur.
Subhash Bharani and Command Area Development Authority (CADA) chairman C Ramesh who were entrusted with the task in T Narsipur would face the music. Similarly, the anointment of Benki Mahadevu as the chairman of Kartataka State Bewerage Corporation failed to work at the expected level.
Karnataka Vidyut Karkhane chairman G N Nanjunda Swamy of Kollegal, Zoo Authority of Karnataka chairman A Nanjundaswamy of Varuna, Chamarajanagar Urban Development Authority president R Sunder are rumoured to face the axe from their posts for failing to deliver goods.
