Mysore University to utilise Rs 50 cr for bio-diversity

The varsity will receive a grant of Rs 33 crore in the first phase in a next couple of days. Rest of the funds will be released depending upon the varsity’s programmes, said UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof V G Talawar.

At the Academic Council meeting held here on Saturday, the V-C said, the Eleventh Finance Commission of the University Grants Commission that had visited the varsity in March had recommended the financial assistance of Rs 25.59 crore.  However, the university has been granted Rs 15.63 crore.

Model university

Prof Talawar further said that the expert committee of Karnataka Knowledge Commission which visited the university has submitted its report to the State government in regard to making the UoM as a model university. Already, the UoM has signed an Memorandum of Understanding with Kingston University of England to have joint research activities in five courses - social work, mass communication and journalism with special preference to electronic media, computing and business management, micro-biology and physics. “While subject experts from the Kingston University will visit UoM, our faculty will also visit the Kingston University,” he added.

 A team of 25 students from the Kingston University will visit the University of Mysore on a three-week study India study tour programme in November or December. The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kingston University is expected to visit Mysore in the last week of September to finalise the MoU, he said adding that the draft is ready.
