CBI probe sought into ex-VC’s tenure

Last Updated 13 October 2018, 10:59 IST

Demanding a CBI inquiry into the tenure of the former vice-chancellor of KSOU, K S Rangappa, who is said to be an aspirant for the post of advisor to the Higher Education Minister, former MLC Go Madhusudan, on Tuesday, urged minister G T Devegowda to take the advise of any expert from across the nation but not Rangappa.

Listing out 25 queries, a copy of which he had sent to Rangappa on Monday morning, Madhusudan challenged that he is ready for a face-to-face public debate on any forum.

Rangappa was vice-chancellor of two Mysuru-based universities — Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) and University of Mysore (UoM). He was a JD(S) candidate in the recently held Assembly poll from Chamaraja constituency in Mysuru. He is related to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. His son Shreyas is married to Namratha, the CM’s niece. Namratha is a daughter of Anasuya, Kumaraswamy’s elder sister.

It has to be recalled that Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) had organised the public debate on Tuesday, between the ex-MLC and Rangappa. Madhusudan has been fighting the case since he was a member of the Board of Management (BoM) of the KSOU.

They have been trading charges and counter-charges at each other since a long time. However, the debate was withdrawn, citing legal reasons as a couple of cases against Rangappa, in connection with the KSOU, are pending before the court and also Lokayukta. But, Madhusudan arrived at the MDJA as per the schedule and said, he expected Rangappa to be present.

He said, even though the MDJA has withdrawn its sponsorship, citing legal reasons, there was no harm in a discussion to sort out the issue, leaving out the cases pending before the court.

Madhusudan said, he is aware of the other allegations against Rangappa that he misused funds of both KSOU and UoM and that he has received kickbacks in granting works to contractors.

“I am not listing any of those allegations, involving money. I am interested in getting justice for the lakhs of students of KSOU, who have paid their hard-earned money as fees and have studied hard to fulfil their dreams of securing some educational qualification. I am only asking a question on the violation of law,” he said.
