Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore G Hemantha Kumar said Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of truth and non-violence is a solution to many problems of the world.

The VC was addressing a gathering, after launching ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’, organised by Centre for Gandhian Studies and National Service Scheme (NSS) of UoM, ahead of the 75th Independence Day, and to commemorate 91 years of the Dandi March.

Gandhi’s theories are a guide to the world and they are an inspiration to lead a meaningful life. Every citizen must know about Gandhi’s principles, he said.

Gandhi embraced truth and non-violence in all struggles. He is immortal as father of the nation in the hearts of the people. He was the leader of the national movement. He succeeded because of his strong faith in struggle, the VC said.

UoM Registrar R Shivappa said, “Dandi Satyagraha was a non-violent movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and it was a direct action campaign of tax resistance against the British salt monopoly.”
