Mandya win is people’s victory: Sumalatha

 MP-elect A Sumalatha, on Wednesday, promised that she would work for the development of Mandya district and farmers. She assured that nagging issues of farmers would be resolved.

Sumalatha addressed her supporters during the ‘Swabhimani Vijayotsava,’ a programme organised to celebrate her victory in the recently concluded LoK Sabha elections (2019), at Silver Jubilee park, here.

She said that her victory was --’a people’s victory’. “I am nothing without people and I will dedicate myself for the welfare of the people,” she assured.

Sumalatha, recalling her husband M H Ambareesh’s service, said: “There wasn’t a single black mark in Ambareesh’s political career. He resigned from his a ministerial position when he was unable to resolve the Cauvery dispute. I will follow in his footsteps. People needn’t come in search of me. I will visit every taluk,” she said.

Cauvery issue

She promised she would make sincere efforts to resolve the Cauvery issue. It may be recalled that Sumalatha gained the support from the people of the district cutting across party lines.

Expressing displeasure, she said that even after LS elections, JD(S) workers were maintaining a negative attitude and commenting against her. “Rather, they must join me for the development of the district,” she remarked. “Congress, BJP, Raita Sangha and ‘Swabhimani JD(S)’ workers, openly waving their party flags, came to support me,” she noted.

Ambi’s dream

Sumalatha said that Ambareesh dreamed of watching his son Abhishek’s movie ‘Amar’. Sumalatha requested people to help Abhishek build an acting career.

Abhishek said that Sumalatha’s victory was the greatest gift given by the people of Mandya to Ambareesh on his birthday (May 29). Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa said that Ambareesh’s birthday was Mandya’s birthday. He said that there was a need to make people aware of the funds being allocated to MLAs and MPs.

“Sumalatha will be amongst people always,” Darshan added.

Actor Yash said that Sumalatha won because of the barbs hurled at her by Opposition leaders.

“One must not comment negatively against a woman,” he cautioned. Actor Rockline Venkatesh, Doddanna, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRSS) leader Sunitha Puttannaiah, wife of late farmer-leader K S Puttannaiah, Congress rebel leaders were present.
