Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha on Friday said the Hubballi-Varanasi train service will be introduced on May 23, while the day train between Hubballi and Mysuru will also be launched the same day.

Speaking after releasing the commemorative postage stamp on Sri Hangal Kumar Swamiji as part of the seer’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations, Sinha noted that the demand to introduce the train service between Hubballi and Mangaluru will also be considered.

The project to bring 2.50 lakh gram panchayats in the country under the optical fibre cable (OFC) network to give broadband internet connection at 100 mbps speed will be completed by the end of 2018, and these rural areas will have Wifi hotspots. In the first phase, one lakh gram panchayats will be covered by June-end, he said, adding that steps will be taken to improve the signal strength of the BSNL mobile network.

Earlier, he told mediapersons that mobile connectivity is being provided in the hilly, naxal-affected and backward areas also. E-commerce, passport service and payment bank service will be provided through the Postal department, he said.

On the suspicious death of Karnataka cadre IAS officer, Anurag Tewari, Sinha told mediapersons that the Uttar Pradesh government will not hesitate to hand over the case to the CBI, if needed.
