'No unilateral decision on Cauvery Board'

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said the union government would not take any "unilateral" or "arbitrary" decision on the formation of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

The minister said the Centre was holding discussions on the issue, while noting that several states had river water management boards and authorities to resolve disputes.

"It (the Centre) has to hold consultations with all the states and inform the court about the outcome of the discussion with them and then take action. The central government will not take any arbitrary and unilateral decision or action on the Cauvery issue," she told reporters at Madurai airport.
