The BJP demanded on Monday that the Election Commission deploy central forces in vulnerable areas of the state to ensure free and fair elections.

A delegation of the party’s central leaders met the Commission officials here and complained that the state government officials were hand in glove with the ruling party (Congress) and obstructing free and fair elections.

The delegation comprising party national general secretaries Bhupender Yadav and Arun Singh and spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao, in their memorandum, said many government officials (including those of the BBMP) were working at the behest of the ruling party Congress and denied permission to the BJP to put up hoardings and hold public meetings.

“The Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Bengaluru, be censured and disciplinary action be initiated for deliberately denying BJP its due permissions, be removed forthwith from his position,” the memorandum said.

The saffron party also demanded that the poll body deploy more micro-observers, preferably from other states.
