People cursing JD(S) for its false promises: BSY

The Opposition BJP put the coalition government on the mat blaming the ruling alliance of failing to tackle severe drought in the state and for betraying farmers by promising them crop loan waiver.

Making a preliminary submission to move an adjournment motion against the government for failing to bring relief to people suffering under drought, Leader of the Opposition B S Yeddyurappa said it was six months since the government came to power and not a single promise had been fulfilled.

“People are cursing JD(S) for making false promises and are keen it falls from power. I wonder how and why the Congress is keeping quiet,” Yeddyurappa said. He said nationalised banks had not agreed to the government’s request that it would reimburse the crop loan waived by farmers in four years.

He claimed Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s suite in a five-star hotel in Bengaluru will cost the state exchequer Rs two crore per annum. “You indulge in lavish spending and at the same time hoodwink people claiming you have not availed of a government bungalow,” Yeddyurappa charged.

In the Legislative Council, Leader of the Opposition Kota Srinivas Poojary said people were migrating for work, selling off their livestock at throwaway prices, but district incharge ministers were yet to hold review meetings and come to the aid of the people facing nature’s fury.

Among the sowing conducted in 62 lakh hectares area in the state, 90% of the crops have dried up and losses are estimated to be about Rs 16,500 crore, he said.
