'Pity Gadag continues to face water crisis, despite Cong govt'

Last Updated 26 May 2017, 20:48 IST
For the past seven decades Gadag district has been reeling under acute drinking water crisis. In spite of Congress administration, there has been no permanent drinking water scheme in place to address the issue. Drinking water is being supplied once in two months to the twin cities of Gadag-Betageri, said B S Yeddyurappa, BJP state unit president.

He was addressing the BJP workers at the Sangolli Rayanna Circle, where the party had organised a massive protest against the failure of the government in addressing the drinking water crisis and hike in the property tax by the City Municipal Council, here on Friday.

Yeddyurappa said that it was a misfortune to note that the situation had gone out of control in District In-charge Minister H K Patil’s constituency. “In order to teach the government a lesson, citizens should not vote H K Patil to power. The government continues to sleep over the crisis and will not wake up unless the citizens protest. I will protest every day till the demand is met,” he added.

Meanwhile, speaking to mediapersons, District In-charge Minister H K Patil, stated that the protest by Yeddyurappa was politically motivated.

The 24x7 drinking water project was on the verge of completion and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on June 4 on an experimental basis. When water is being supplied to all the wards through tankers, there was no need for the BJP to protest, he added.
