PWD: Work on flood ravaged Sampaje Ghat Road completed

Last Updated 17 November 2018, 19:26 IST

The National Highway (NH) division of PWD executive engineer Subbarama Holla said that the work on temporary restoration of Sampaje Ghat stretch is complete. The NH division has written to the Kodagu deputy commissioner to take a call on allowing the movement of vehicles on Sampaje Ghat.

Speaking at the Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting chaired by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Saturday, he said that landslides on multiple locations following heavy rain in August had caused extensive damage to the road. Portion of a few stretches on the highway was washed away in the rain fury. Several sand bags have been used for strengthening the road on spots where it had damaged severely.

“The NH division has written to Kodagu deputy commissioner recommending to allow movement of all kinds of vehicles on the stretch. The Kodagu deputy commissioner will take a call on lifting the ban on the movement of vehicles on Sampaje Ghat shortly,” he said.

On the directions of Kodagu deputy commissioner P I Sreevidya, the NH division has installed signboards throughout the stretch and has submitted a report on the same, he said.

Meanwhile, District In-charge Minister U T Khader said that the Sampaje Ghat will be open for vehicles before December-end.
