Rains batter Hosapete, Kodagu; Cauvery swells

Rains continued to lash parts of the state on Monday.Dakshina Kannada district experienced moderate rainfall on Monday. In the last 24 hours, the district received an average of 26.8 mm rain. This includes—Mangaluru (41.5 mm), Belthangady—(26.3) , Puttur—(25.9) Sullia—(22.2) and Bantwal—18 mm.

Udupi district recorded 44.5 mm of rain on Monday.

Monsoon has intensified across Kodagu district. The district experienced rainfall for the whole day. There was heavy rain in Virajpet and Somwarpet. The water-level in river Cauvery at Bhagamandala has increased. 

Dharwad city too received heavy rain towards evening. With the taluk receiving good rains for the last 15 days, agricultural activities have picked up. Some farmers have taken up sowing operations. Hubballi received light drizzle in the afternoon.

Bhatkal, Honnavar, Karwar and Gokarna in Uttara Kannada district received moderate rains. There was only drizzle in Haveri though the sky remained overcast. Gadag district has been receiving light rains for the past three days. The district has recorded a rainfall of 44 mm till June 12.

A house collapsed in Nargund killing an ox and damaging household articles. Bagalkot town and surrounding areas received light rains for the whole day.

Hospate town in Ballari district received heavy rains for the whole day on Monday. The showers which started around 11 in the morning lashed the town till 6 pm affecting normal life.

Students had to struggle reaching their schools and colleges. Several roads in the town were waterlogged. However, there have been no reports of any loss of life or property.

Moderate rains lashed several parts Shivamogga the district. Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Shikaripur, Hosanagar, Sagar and Thirthahalli received moderate rains intermittently throughout the day. The intensity was less compared to the previous days. Most parts of the district witnessed cloudy weather throughout the day.
