Rains wreak havoc in G'barga, Raichur

According to Gescom authorities 52 electric poles have either collapsed or broken in Gulbarga city alone thus bringing power supply to haywire. Large number of trees have been uprooted several of them falling on the electric wires. Power supply which went off around 2 pm was restored only to few areas by 7 pm. Gescom officials said normal supply will be restored by Saturday evening.

About four power transmission towers between Kapanur and Sultanpur on the outskirts of the city have also suffered damage disrupting normal supply. KPTCL authorities said efforts were being made to restore supply from the alternative route. SP B A Padmanayan said except an ox which was injured due to lightning at Farahatabad, no damage to property or life has been reported from anywhere in the district.

Girl hurt

Raichur, Sindhanur  and Manvi experienced heavy downpour on Friday. Lingasagur and Mudgal also experienced strong winds. In Ashinal village, near Mudgal, an eight-year-old girl, Kavitha was injured when a roof fell on her. She has been admitted to the general hospital in Lingasagur. Power supply was disrupted in various taluks in the district.

In Basavakalyan too strong winds blew away roof tops and trees and electric poles came crashing down. In Amritakund village members of a marriage party suffered injuries as the pandal collapsed. In Ladavanthi a transformer fell down causing a loss of Rs three lakh.
