Speaking after inaugurating the office of the special representative of the State government at Karnataka Bhavan here, he said the current norms for funds release were framed years ago and had to be revised.

The Chief Minister said that the State needed Rs 18,000 crore for flood relief works and hoped that the Centre would provide assistance. “The Union ministers from Karnataka would extend their full co-operation in realising this,” he said.

He said when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited the flood-hit areas, he spoke to him at length in the flight, from Hyderabad to Raichur. “I have full faith in the Prime Minister,” he added.

About the additional special representative (OSR) office, he said that it would be a link between the State government and Centre. “Getting the Central clearance for pending State projects is an important work and this office under the guidance of the OSR will work towards that.”

Home Minister V S Acharya, Rural Development Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Special Representative V Dhananjay Kumar and OSR Bykere Nagesh were present on the occasion.
