Rly trespass: 3,700 people prosecuted

The South Western Railway has prosecuted as many as 3,707 persons for trespassing railway tracks.

The measure is aimed at discouraging rail users and general public from indulging in any practice detrimental to their individual safety.

The action has come as part of nationwide campaign by Indian Railways. Out of the total prosecuted persons, action was initiated against 2,150 in 2017 from whom Railways collected Rs 8.41 lakh as fine. This year as many as 1,557 people have been prosecuted and Rs 4.97 lakh fine has been imposed.

In a release, the Railways has advised public not to trespass railway tracks, which is punishable under Section 147 of the Railways Act.
