Rlys awaiting land to start work on line from Tumakuru to Davangere

Work on the new railway line between Tumakuru and Davangere will be taken up soon after getting the required land from the Karnataka government, a senior railway official has said.

A total of 2,136 acres is needed for the 200 km railway line and the state government has promised to provide it free of cost. So far, the state government has acquired 23 acres but has not handed it over to the railways.

Once land is handed over, the workswill be started. The work is expected to started in 2017-18. Once the new railway line completed, it will reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Hubballi drastically, the official added.

 On the proposed line between Mysuru and Thalassery in Kerala, the official said the Kerala Railway Development Corporation is conducting a feasibility study. Based on the study report, the Railway Ministry will take the final decision.  

 Besides, feasibility study of the proposed railway line between Bidar and Nanded, Badami and Yelburga via Gajendragad, Challakere-Hiriyur-Turuvekere-Channarayapatna; Hassan-Belur-Chikkamagluru-Sringeri-Shivamogga; Swamihalli-Rayadurga; Almatti-Koppal; Hindupur-Chitradurga and Whitefield-Bangarpet will be taken up in 2017-18, he said.
