SC Collegium and candidates should interact: HG Ramesh

Last Updated 14 January 2019, 13:09 IST

Personal interaction of the Supreme Court collegium with the judicial candidates will help the collegium to assess their suitability and choose the most deserving candidates, said Karnataka HC judge Justice H G Ramesh.

He was speaking at his farewell function, organised by the State Bar Council and the Advocates Association, on Monday.

This, he says, will enable the collegium to appreciate the records placed in front of them, and correct the errors. He further added that this will also enable the collegium to provide an opportunity to the candidates to respond to any adverse comments recorded against them by the Intelligence Bureau or consulted Judges.

Justice Ramesh also stressed the importance of having good advocates. He said that the Bar is where the judges come from and hence making it strong is very important for the system.

He also shared tips to the young advocates. He advised them to always make notes that will help them during the argument.

Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari said that Justice HG Ramesh stood for the institution all times. "If the Chief Justice is the captain of the team, then Justice Ramesh will always emerge as the Man of the Match," he said.

Justice Ramesh was appointed as a judge of the Karnataka HC on May 2003.
