Last Updated 17 August 2016, 20:32 IST

The state cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for establishing Advanced Training Institute (ATI) in Ballari in association with the Centre in public-private partnership.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Law Minister T B Jayachandra said the ATI would impart training for teachers of  Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The government had identified five acres of land in Ballari for the institute, he said.

This is the first ATI to come up in the state. Prospective ITI teachers had to enrol with ATI in other states, he pointed out.

The Cabinet also gave its approval for a Rs 200-crore road safety programme which includes installation of signboards and widening of roads near villages adjacent to State and National Highways. The four-year project will be implemented in phases, Jayachandra said.
