Science courses in 100 more govt colleges

The colleges to be selected for science courses will get library, laboratory, additional furniture and a computer science laboratory.

Higher Education minister V S Acharya told media that each college would get nearly Rs 35 lakh towards upgradation of infrastructure facilities as required for science courses. Besides, post-graduation centres will be set up in 10 colleges. The Cabinet earmarked Rs 50 crore for the purpose.

The Cabinet sanctioned its approval for setting up an agriculture university in Shimoga. The government had allocated Rs 10 crore for the university. The university would take up research and teaching activities in the fields of agriculture, horticulture concerned to districts - Shimoga, Hassan, Chitradurga, Davangere, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikmagalur.

The government sanctioned a medical college - Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences - in Mangalore. The college, with total intake of 150 seats will be operational from academic year 2011-12.

The Cabinet sanctioned a BSc nursing college each in Hassan and Mysore. The Cabinet decided to grant 40 per cent of the developed land as compensation to land losers for housing projects taken up by Karnataka Housing Board.
