<p class="title">The Mangaluru police have arrested seven students in two separate ragging cases reported in as many weeks in the city.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The four students of final year engineering at Srinivas College in Mukka - K U Shamil (22) of Mukka, Mohammed Bazil (22) of Baikampady, Sambram Alva (20) of Kenchanakere in Mulki and Ashwith S Johnson (21) of Kalpane in Kulashekar - were arrested for ragging the juniors, Mangaluru Commissioner of Police N Shashi Kumar said on Friday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Three suspects Shamil, Bazil and Sambhram had reportedly threatened and assaulted a lecturer of the college.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The jurisdictional police have booked a case against the four students and arrested them based on the complaint lodged by college dean Thomas Pinto on March 3. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The college has already suspended the students in question.</p>.<p class="bodytext">In another ragging case, the Kankanady police have arrested Mohammed Adil (20), Rijin Royaz (20) and Mohammed Nizammudin (20), all students of Yenepoya Degree College, on charges of ragging.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The trio trespassed into the rented room of a few juniors at Pumpwell Simon Lane and forced them to shave their beards and heads. One of the victims had filed a complaint with Kankanady police.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Shashi Kumar urged authorities of educational institutions to take strict measures against ragging. Despite repeated warnings, ragging incidents had increased in the commissionerate jurisdiction, the police commissioner said.</p>
