Several villages in Ballari marooned after heavy rains

A couple of districts in the State continued to receive rainfall on Thursday also.Darojikere in Kampli taluk, Ballari district, is swelling due to increased water levels. Heavy rainfall in Sandur has left the lake overflowing and excess water from the lake is gushing towards Narihalli stream. Excess water in the Narihalla stream has left a few villages in hobli limits cut off from the rest of the world.

A few roads like Sharadanagar-Devalapur, Jeeriganuru-Hampadevanahalli-Gonalu and Jeeriganuru-Ballapur in Ballari taluk are submerged in the floodwater from the overflowing Narihalla.

The paddy fields in the locality are indundated and the crops have been washed away. With a swelling Narihalla flowing adjacent to Sharadanagar, the residents are worried over the impending floods.

The inundated roads and the swelling streams remind us of the 2009 floods, said Lokesh, a former gram panchayat president.

Struck by lightning

A woman labourer was struck by lightning at Mincheri village in Ballari taluk on Thursday evening.Shivagangamma, 26, was returning home from a field where she was working, when the incident occured. Tahsildar Pramod visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
