Situation continues to be grim in Mysuru, Kodagu

Overflowing Cauvery River waters have inundated a residential project and other low-lying areas, including a stretch of the Kushalnagar-Suntikoppa road.

People were seen pumping out water from cellars of commercial establishments.

Police personnel were regulating vehicular traffic on the water-logged stretch to avert any untoward incident.

According to local residents, water receded on Saturday compared to Friday.

Vehicular movement between Kushalnagar and Suntikoppa has resumed since Saturday morning.

Cauvery river is in spate in Periyapatna taluk. Situtation is grim near the bridge that connects Koppa town in Periyapatna taluk with Kushalnagar town of Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu district.

A church and an Idgah Maidan have been submerged at Koppa town in Periyapatna taluk of Mysuru district.

Water has reached up to 1 km from the river bank inundating nearly 50 houses, 30 commercial establishments and over 200 acres of farmlands.

The Kolli bridge connecting Bylakuppe and Koppa villages in Periyapatna taluk of Mysuru district has been submerged.

Besides farmlands, ginger washing units and a bar and restaurant have been submerged.

Residents said that they had never seen the Cauvery waters reach these places earlier.

River Lakshmanathirtha in Hunsur town of Mysuru district is in spate as it rained heavily in Kodagu district.

Lakshmanathirtha has its origin at Irupu on the Western Ghats in Virajpet taluk and joins the River Cauvery at Ramenahalli of Hunsur taluk.
