Health and Family Welfare Minister K R Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday said that the government will adopt the Kerala model for rehabilitating endosulfan victims in the state.

Replying to BJP’s V Sunil Kumar and C T Ravi on the issue in the Legislative Assembly, he assured them that he will go to the root of the problem that has caused disabilities to hundreds of people in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts. All necessary steps will be taken to provide relief to the victims, he added.

Ramesh Kumar, who turned emotional after looking at photographs of the victims submitted by the BJP members, said he will visit these districts and meet the victims soon after the legislature session concludes. “I sometimes feel why I am going through this agony...It appears to be the biggest test in my public life. I am deeply moved after seeing the photographs,” he added.

On the charges that the Kerala government has recklessly dumped a large quantity of endosulfan at Kerala-Karnataka boundary in Udupi, the minister said he would soon visit the place and order an enquiry if necessary.
