JOIN USState to get 3,000 more telemetric rain gauge stations
The Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology (IT, BT and S&T) will set up 3,000 new telemetric rain gauge stations in the State by March 2015.
Speaking at the ‘Indo-French Innovation and Technology Seminar on Systems and ICTs’ here on Monday, Tanusree Deb Barma, Managing Director, Department of IT, BT and S&T said, “There are already 2,000 telemetric rain gauge stations as of now, where even the slightest measure of rainfall gets recorded.
"As many as 3,000 more stations will be started by March. With this, real-time decisions can be taken and this will help agriculture to a great extent, besides mitigating the effects of floods. These stations give us accurate data and we have collaborated with the Indian Space Research Organisation to use it,” she said.
30 pc startups from B’luru
As a means to encourage startups, the department has collaborated with nine engineering colleges located on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
“We want to extend this startup scene beyond Bengaluru. The colleges are getting an annual grant of Rs 40 lakh per annum. We have connected them with the National Entrepreneurship Network. Several hackathons have also been conducted,” she said.
She said nearly 30 per cent of the startups in the country originate from Bengaluru.
Barma said that in order to establish an animation, visual effects, gaming and comics laboratory in Bengaluru, a “global tender will be floated” to secure an investment of Rs 80 crore. It will be a collaborative project involving government and private players.
