JOIN USThe state-level single window clearance committee, in its meeting on Friday, cleared the project, with the total investment of Rs 27.50 crore.
The project can offer employment to 150 people. The company has already purchased the land required and would start construction works in two-three months. Ravindra Bhat, Director (Finance), Mysore Mercantile Co Ltd said that the plant would use green grass, tender maize and cow dung form the biomass utilised to generate power.
The grass required for the plant would be grown in the land purchased by the company and also go for contract farming with farmers in the nearby villages. “We will purchase the grass from farmers at a cost of Rs 2 per kg. The unit requires 20 tonnes of grass per day,” he said.
Ravindra Bhat said the project would adopt the advanced technology offered by Envitec Biogas. According to Bhat, for the first time the technology is being adopted in India. The biomass will be pumped into heated, thermally insulated reinforced concrete tanks and allowed to decompose. After decomposition methane is liberated. The methane is used to generate electricity.
The company targets at production of 15 million units of power in a year. The cost of production would be around Rs 3.20 per unit. The power generated would be purchased by the State government. Besides, the company would earn profit by selling the residues, which serve as natural fertilisers.
