Speaking to reporters, he said the department has so far spent Rs 100 crore on the project, which is estimated to cost Rs 230 crore.

The winter session of the State Legislature will be held at Suvarna Soudha in January 2011, Udasi added. The Public Works Department is calling tender for the construction of a steel bridge across Tungabhadra river near Mantralaya at the cost of Rs 40 crore.

The State is planning to seek financial assistance from the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh for implementing this project, the PWD minister said.

BMIC not under PWD

Udasi said the controversial Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project comes under the Infrastructure Development department and not the PWD.

“I do not know anything as  the project does not come under the PWD,” he stated.
This reply came when reporters asked him certain questions regarding land allotment to the BMIC, the promoters of NICE road. The PWD is the nodal department for the project implementation.

It is the Public Works Department  which gives permission to the KIADB to acquire land for the project and prepares agenda for the high level committee meeting to review the project.
