JOIN USHome Minister K J George on Thursday said that a separate tax-free canteen will be started exclusively for the State police.
He said that in a first of its kind move, the canteen for policemen will be set up in Bangalore, and later extended to other cities.
The announcement was made by the Home Minister, in response to demands by members of the Opposition in the Legislative Council for extending a canteen facility to the State police, on lines of the military canteen system.
The demand for setting up the canteen was also made by M C Nanaiah ((JD-S) and was supported by Legislative Council Chairperson D H Shankarmurthy. Earlier, Marithibbe Gowda (JD-S) had sought the intervention of the Home Minister in ensuring that the House Rent Allowance for the 13th month is not deducted from police personnel.
