Tax on non-K'taka vehicles: HC reserves orders

The High Court on Monday reserved its order seeking directions to stay the implementation of Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Act, 2014, and declare it unconstitutional.

The petitioner has contended that non-Karnataka registered vehicles were forced to pay additional tax to the State government which was illegal as such vehicles had already paid their taxes where they were registered.  Justice Anand Byrareddy reserved his orders in the matter.

Police complaint authority

The High Court on Monday orally directed the State government to ensure that public can register their complaint against police personnel with the Police Complaint Authority. 

During the hearing of a petition, Justice A N Venugopala Gowda expressed his displeasure about the way the affidavits were filed by the deputy commissioners of police and superintendents of police and how the court orders were not followed by the police department.

The court said that a detailed order will be passed with regard to the establishment of police complaint authority, The matter was adjourned to Tuesday.
