Textile training for 30,000 unemployed youth

He was addressing mediapersons after the review meeting of the progress made in the Handloom and Textiles department’s different schemes, on Monday and said among the 30,000 candidates training will be given to 44 per cent belonging to the SC/ST.

Trainees will be given Rs 2,000 stipend. Till now under the Golden Textile Policy, training has been given to 10,310 unemployed. Out of this 4,000 have got employment, he said.

The department has met some industrialists, and they have been attracted to start industries in district and taluk centres. They have been promised basic facilities to start the industries. In the region where the unemployment rate is high, prominence will be given to establish such industries, he said.

A scheme has been designed to build 5,000 houses for the weavers in the year 2009-10 and Rs 15 crore grant has been sanctioned for this, he said.
