There is no Nipah Virus infection in Gadag district

It is now official that there is no Nipah Virus (NiV) infection in Gadag district so far.

Gagadhar Eshwarappa Badiger (52), who was suspected to be carrying the deadly virus, has tested negative for the virus.

"Badiger was admitted at Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) on May 24. His blood samples had been sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune. We received the report on Friday which ruled out the NiV in his blood samples,"Dr P S Bhoosaraddy, Director, GIMS, told DH.

Badiger, a resident of Mushigeri village in Ron taluk, Gadag district, is being treated at the ICU for the last three days.

He was working at Kozhikode for the last six months and returned to his native place after the outbreak of the NiV.

He complained of headache and fever and consulted a doctor at Ron who had sent him to the GIMS.

Badiger's family members heaved a sigh of relief after the announcement that he was not suffering from NiV
