Cash, liquor, tobacco seized in various parts of state

Cash and liquor being illegally transported and tobacco products illegally stashed at a godown, have been seized from various parts of the state on Wednesday.

Election staff seized Rs 25 lakh cash being transported in a vehicle without valid documents at Badami in Bagalkot district on Wednesday. The election staff was told that the amount belonged to a bank. The amount will be verified and further action will be taken, said CEO Gangubai Mankar.

Raichur district

Police seized a total of Rs 3.55 lakh cash being transported without valid documents in three vehicles at the inter-state election check post near Shaktinagar in Raichur district on Wednesday.

Rs 1.27 lakhs was seized from a vehicle going towards Raichur. Rs 1 lakh was recovered from a vehicle driven by Anjum, moving towards Telangana. Similarly, Rs 1.27 lakh was recovered from a vehicle driven by Rajareddy.

Koppal taluk

As many as 540 bags full of tobacco products valued at Rs 50 lakh being illegally stored in the form of sachets without valid documents were seized from Ginagera village in Koppal taluk on Wednesday. The godown belongs to Nazeer Ahmad S K Nashiruddin Police Patil (39), who has been arrested.

The gutka packets are suspected to have been brought from Chikkodi in Belagavi district and seem to have been adulterated with high doses of tobacco which is harmful for health.

A detailed investigation will be taken up, said Superintendent of Police Renuka
K Sukumar.

A team of Excise officials seized illicit liquor valued at Rs 45,07,718 lakh from Shahpur and Surpur regions of Yadgir district on Tuesday.

In Surpur, 14,688 litres of liquor valued at Rs 44,76,398 and a heavy vehicle valued at Rs 15 lakh has also been seized.

In Shahpur, in two incidents, a total of 43 litres of liquor valued at Rs 26,136 worth and two two-wheelers valued at Rs 50,000, have been seized. A total of 8 litres of liquor valued at Rs 5,184 and a two-wheeler valued at Rs 25,000 have been seized.
