JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda, who will turn 85 on Friday, left for Tirupati with his wife Channamma on Thursday.

Gowda is known to celebrate his birthday at the temple every year. This year too, despite the hectic political developments in the state, Gowda will keep his date with Lord Venkateswara.

Gowda, a staunch devout, is hoping for some divine intervention to make his son H D Kumaraswamy the chief minister.

The octogenarian is expected to be back in Bengaluru on Friday afternoon or evening.

It can be recalled that Gowda had sometime back declared that his party would get an absolute majority and that the entire state would be celebrating his birthday on May 18.

Though his prediction did not come true, all’s not lost for the JD(S), as it is still vying to form the government.
